Before your skills session.
Your skills session is done on an AHA voice-assisted manikin. A few minutes of prep here means a faster, smoother check-off and your eCard the same day.
Watch: giving breaths on the RQI manikin
Breaths are where most students get stuck. This short clip shows what a good breath looks like.
Tips for passing breaths
- Open the airwayTilt the head back and lift the chin before every set of breaths.
- Get a tight sealHold the mask firmly to the face so air can't escape around the edges.
- Breathe for about 1 secondGive just enough air to make the chest rise. Too much or too fast won't count.
- Watch the feedbackThe manikin's voice prompts and screen tell you right away if a breath was good. Adjust and keep going.
- Get back to compressions fastKeep your 2 breaths quick so the pause in compressions stays under 10 seconds.
